The Maine Minor Child Power of Attorney is delegating parental authority to another individual of the mother’s/father’s/guardian’s choice. The execution of this document creates a situation where they and their agent will have concurrent authority over certain aspects of the minor’s life, such as schooling and healthcare.

Statute – Delegation by Parent or Guardian (§ 5-127)

Definition – “Power of attorney” means a writing or other record that grants authority to an agent to act in the place of the principal, whether or not the term “power of attorney” is used (§ 5-902(7)).

Signing Requirements – Acknowledgment of Notary Public (§ 5-905(1))

Termination Period – Twelve (12) Months (§ 5-127(1))
