How to Register a Boat

The state of Oklahoma requires the active registration and title of a watercraft to be employed on any waterway within the boundaries of its home jurisdiction. This applies to vessels propelled by a mechanical motor with over 10 horsepower. Circumstances excluded from this condition are as follows:

• Emergency purpose lifeboats.
• Boats used for the purpose of racing with an accredited racing commission.
• Government-owned vessels.
• A vessel utilized for 60 days or fewer that is currently registered out-of-state or out of the country.

To fulfill the obligation to title and register a vessel, attend your closest regional Oklahoma MVD agency with the following required documentation in hand:

• A fully filled-out Oklahoma Application for Certificate of Title For a Boat Or Outboard Motor (Form BM-26).
• A finalized Oklahoma Boat or Outboard Motor Serial Number Confirmation (Form BM-10) is to be endorsed by a dealer or private party seller in the presence of an official notary public.
• A piece of evidence to signify ownership such as a manufacturer’s certificate of origin, an accurately reassigned vessel title, or the prior owner’s registration.
• A notarized bill of sale.
• Compensation for all applicable state registration and titling fees.
