How to Register a Vehicle

You are not allowed to drive your recently purchased vehicle until it has been registered. If you need to drive the vehicle before registration, you can purchase a 3-day permit for a small fee by visiting the ServiceArizona website.

Buyer must appear in person at an MVD(Motor Vehicle Division) branch with the following paperwork:

  • A valid photo I.D.
  • Proof of ownership(Title) – If the title has been lost or stolen, complete the Arizona Title and Registration Form.
  • Proof of insurance
  • If the buyer lives in Phoenix or Tucson, they will need to provide an emissions compliance form issued during an inspection. (This is only required if the vehicle is older than 5 years.) – subject to § 49-542.03.
  • Be prepared to pay the required fees. (Registration fee: $8, Title fee: $4.)
