How to Register a Vehicle

If you purchased a vehicle in a private sale, Kansas allows 60 days to register the vehicle. Visit a DOV (Division of Vehicles) office at the county treasurer’s office. You must arrive in person with the materials listed below:

  • A completed bill of sale (confirming the existence of a transaction).
  • Title (must be signed over to the new owner).
  • Driver’s license (must indicate that the person registering the vehicle is a Kansas resident, i.e., state-issued).
  • Proof of insurance (an insurance card or statement).
  • Fill out and sign a Title and Registration Manual Application (Form TR-212a).
  • Necessary preparations are needed to pay any registration and/or tax fees.
